Georgetown Speedway Battles Back Against Mother Nature for The Vault “Rockin’ The Races” Night

By Chad Cathell: Mother Nature threw everything she had at Georgetown Speedway in the days leading up to Friday night, dumping inches of rain across the region. But once again, the dedicated track crew came out on top, overcoming adversity and an unfavorable forecast to put on another successful show. Initially scheduled for Saturday, July 12, the event was shifted to Friday night as part of a mid-season schedule adjustment, and fans packed the stands for Rockin’ The Races Night – Fueled by The Vault 103.5 & 102.9.

In the headlining Millman’s NAPA Modifieds feature, Milford, Delaware’s Jordan Watson led the field to green alongside Pipersville, Pennsylvania’s Danny Bouc. Bouc charged to the early lead using the high line and brought Brandon Grosso with him into second. Just as Bouc began to check out, disaster struck on lap four when engine trouble sidelined the No. 6 machine, ending his night early.
On the ensuing Delaware Double File Restart, Grosso assumed the lead with Ryan Godown — the “Ringoes Rocket” — powering into second after starting sixth on the original start. Watson, Ryan Krachun, and Billy Pauch Jr. completed the top five.

Grosso set the pace until lap 12 when Pauch Jr. came to a stop in turn three with a broken shock. On the restart, Godown surged ahead, grabbing the lead from Grosso and never looking back. A lap-18 caution for Howard O’Neal brought the field together one last time, but Godown nailed the restart and cruised to the checkered flag.

Watson secured a third-place finish and claimed the Taylor & Messick Delmarva Proud Bonus, while WB James earned top Spec Engine honors and a $250 bonus courtesy of Taylor & Messick.

“Nitro” Nick Davis parked it in Victory Lane for the first time this season at Georgetown in the 1st State Chevrolet RUSH Late Models. Starting from the pole, Davis survived a lap-zero incident when contact between himself and Derek Magee brought out the caution before a single lap was completed.
Once back under green, Davis was in a class of his own — controlling the field and driving to a dominant victory under the Friday night lights.

The 602 Sportsman feature brought 24 entries to the track, with Laurel, Delaware’s Michael White and hometown rival James Hill leading the field to green for the 20-lap showdown. Early action saw three-wide battles throughout the top ten, but it was Greg Humlhanz who stole the show.

Using the high groove to build momentum in his No. 02 machine, Humlhanz worked his way forward, engaging in a fierce, multi-lap battle with Hill before setting his sights on White. A debris caution on lap nine slowed the field, but only intensified the action.

Over the next several laps, White and Humlhanz traded the lead multiple times, searching for every ounce of grip around the Delaware oval. A lap-13 caution for Matt Peck reset the field, and with Humlhanz out front at the last completed lap, he retained the top spot. Once green, Humlhanz held strong and drove his Indian River Golf Car-sponsored entry to victory on “The Vault Rockin’ The Races Night.”

Six JuiceBox racers thrilled the crowd with exciting front-stretch racing to kick off the night’s festivities. The popular kids division will return on Wednesday, July 31 for the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race — so it’s time to recharge those batteries and get the little racers ready!

Joe Waters claimed the win in the Delmarva Chargers division.
LJ Walbert piloted his brand-new Delaware Super Truck to victory.
Eric Reed added another checkered flag to his season tally in the Little Lincolns.

Georgetown Speedway returns to action again on Thursday, July 31st for the Camp Barnes Benefit Stock Car Race — stay connected on social media and at georgetownspeedway.com for updates, tickets, and event info. As always, thank you to our amazing fans and partners for making race nights possible!
