Joe Toth Legal, Official Georgetown Speedway Crate 602 Sportsman Victor Following Protest

GEORGETOWN, DE – Following Thursday nights Blue Hen Dispose-All Crate 602 Sportsman 20-lap main event, runner-up finisher Scott Hitchens filed a protest with Georgetown Speedway tech officials against the crate engine of race winner Joe Toth.

Toths engine (GM Serial No. 15076070, New Egypt Speedway Seal No. 1007436) was pulled from the car in the speedway pit area last night by tech inspector Dan Fiedler and transported to the Mark Benston Racing Engines shop in Frankford, Del., where it underwent a thorough inspection this morning. Hitchens was present to witness the process.

Among the items checked were the camshaft (in three locations), rocker arms, push rods, compression, balancer, exhaust ports, intake manifold and distributor.

The GM seals were found to be unaltered and proper for the engine.

Toth was deemed 100% legal and is officially the winner. The Belmonts Garage team receives the protest fee posted by Hitchens.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
