Ricky Grosso & Keith Hoffman Team Up for Georgetown Speedway Track Prep as Melvin L. Joseph Memorial Approaches

GEORGETOWN, DE – Two of the areas most respected names in track preparation are joining forces at Georgetown Speedway.

Ricky Grosso, former owner of N.J.s New Egypt Speedway, and Keith Hoffman, racer, speed shop owner and management team member at both Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park and Mahoning Valley (Pa.) Speedway, have teamed up to work the Sussex County clay during the upcoming March events.

Grosso, respected for his grader work at New Egypt, and Hoffman, who manicured the five-eighths-mile, three-eighths-mile and quarter-mile ovals at Bridgeport, will prep Georgetown Speedway for its historic season-opening events.

“We are thrilled that both Ricky and Keith are taking time out of their busy schedules to drive to Delaware and put forth the effort to work on the track,â Georgetown Speedway promoter Brett Deyo said. “Both have proven track records and putting them together will be an asset to every racer in the pits and fan in the grandstands.â

Deyo went on to thank Lou Johnson for his years of dedication to the speedway as a racer, promoter and later track maintenance manager. Johnson will still attend the speedway and take on various projects during the week.

“Lou has given so much time to Georgetown Speedway over the years,â Deyo said. “Now, he can sit back and enjoy the races!â

The Georgetown Speedway season goes green this Saturday (March 5) with the first of two open practices. Gates open at 2 p.m., with cars on track from 4-7 p.m. Grandstand admission is free. Pit admission is $25 (Adults, ages 13 and up), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.

The “richest race in Delaware dirt-track historyâ is set for the following weekend: Thursday-Saturday March 10-12 with the annual running of the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial in memory of the speedways founder.

An Open Practice kicks off the activities on-track Thursday (March 10) from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Friday (March 11) features Spec Small-Block Modifieds (30 laps, $4,049 to win), RUSH Late Models (20 laps, $1,049 to win), Southern Delaware Vintage Stock Cars, Delaware Super Trucks and Delmarva Chargers.  Hot laps will be available for Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman with one timed round awarding Saturday redraw positions for Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman.

On Saturday (March 12), the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Halmar International ‘Elite program with a 49-lap, $25,000-to-win STSS Modified main featuring a pay structure of more than $80,000. STSS Crate 602 Sportsman, Delaware Super Trucks, Delmarva Chargers and Little Lincolns complete the show.

A rain date of Sunday, March 13 is in place.

Georgetown Speedway, originally constructed by Melvin L. Joseph in 1949, is located at the intersection of Route 113 and Speedway Road in Georgetown, Del., just miles from the Delaware beaches and less than a 40-minute drive from Ocean City, Md.
