Racers & Fans Are Eager: Georgetown Speedway Hosts Open Practice Saturday

Written
by Chris Moore

GEORGETOWN, DE - The best of the best are gearing up
for the Northeast Modified opener on Friday-Saturday March 15-16 at the
Georgetown Speedway. Georgetown will host its annual practice day this coming Saturday
(March 9) one week prior to the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial weekend.

The
two-time defending Bob Hilbert Sportswear fueled by Sunoco Short Track Super
Series Fueled By Sunoco South Region Modified champion Ryan Watt will not be in
attendance for practice day this year; announcing on Facebook his son, Logan,
has a quarter midget race that day.

So,
who will be there? Local favorite Amanda Whaley will be in attendance with her Sunoco
Super Late Model and L&J Sheet Metal Modified. When asked if she was
excited for the new season to start, the driver affectionately known as “The
Wild Child,â had just one word to say: “Absolutely.â

Another
local hot shoe, Jordan Watson, will be present for practice day along with
younger brother Joseph “Jo Joâ Watson. Jordan will be in the familiar, family
owned No. 1J at practice day. Jordan remains the only Delaware regular to win a
STSS event.

Several other divisions are expected to have a presence on Saturday, including divisions that arent typically seen at Georgetown. Andrew Joslin, a regular in the Outlaw Stock division at Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway, will be at the speedway for the first time ever to turn some laps.

“Every
year the Melvin L. Joseph Memorial gets bigger. Our phone has been ringing with
racers looking to get laps before the big weekend,â said track promoter Brett
Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC. Needless to say, drivers, officials, crew
members alike are filled with anticipation for the 2019 season to kick off.

Pit
admission will be $20 (no license required). Kids (ages 6-12) will be $10, and
children five and under pay $2. Grandstand admission will be free for all those
who wish to attend. Fat Daddys BBQ will be running concessions and the
Georgetown novelty stand will be open with apparel and souvenirs for the 2019
season.

Hurlock
Auto & Speed Supply will have Sunoco Race Fuels, American Racer Tires and a
complete line of parts available in the pit area.
